Origin Story — 23 Years in Insurance

23 years ago, I walked into my first insurance sales role with no playbook, no network, and no clear idea that this industry would become my life's work.
February 2002. Mediplus Limited. Sales Executive.
I was learning from scratch — how to prospect, how to handle rejection, how to have conversations about money and risk with people who had never thought about either. It was humbling. It was hard. And I was hooked.
What followed was a journey I could not have scripted:
→ Business Consultant at Resolution Health — learning the health insurance value chain → Unit Manager at APA Insurance — leading my first team of agents → Sales Manager, Nairobi — managing Unit Managers and building branch culture → Regional Manager, Central Region — running territory operations → Head of Direct Sales Force, APA Insurance — nine years building the agency channel at scale → LIMRA Associate Insurance Agency Manager — first to qualify in Africa, May 2016 → Group Head of Direct Sales Force, APA Apollo Group — leading Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania today
Along the way, the team I helped build was named AKI Company of the Year four times — 2018, 2021, 2023 and 2024. In 2025, we won the highest growth in life policies sold.
Four national titles. Seven AKI award recognitions across three years of competition.
None of it happened because I was the most talented person in the room.
It happened because I showed up. Every day. For 23 years.
If you are early in your insurance career and wondering whether the work is worth it — it is. The view from here is worth every difficult year that came before.
